NORTHANTS COME TO TOWN
The Northamptonshire CCC pathway players were on a pre-season tour to the North East and that included a session with our Cricket Academy at the Riverside, home of Durham Cricket.
Background
The cricket world is a small one and when Park View Academy of Sports Head of Cricket Ash Thorpe was talking with Adil Tahir helping to arrange a pre season tour, they came up with an idea of a combined training session, which would test our Academy students against players from the Northamptonshire CCC Talent Pathway.
Ash and Adil first met in Dubai in 2009 while Ash was coaching and Adil was a young player in the Young Talents Cricket Academy programme. Adil then traveled to attend Durham School and has stayed in the UK, now working as Batting Lead for Northamptonshire CCC Talent Pathway.
Training Session
Ash and Adil were joined by Luke Sharples (Northamptonshire CCC Talent Pathway Performance Manager) and Shaz Ali (Bowling Lead for Northamptonshire CCC Talent Pathway), 9 players from Park Views First XI squad and 14 players from Northants.
The players were split into 4 teams, with players from both set ups making a team.
Players were given 2 scenarios to work with, first powerplay, transitioning into the second phase and scenario 2 was end of game, 40 required off 24 balls.
The players then showed their skills, not only with bat and ball, but their mental and communication skills.
All the teams were given time to reflect and feedback their thoughts with Ash and Luke leading the feedback session and giving the players some further thoughts on their approach to the game.
Coaches Thoughts
This was a fantastic session which all the players bought into from the moment they arrived. The competition between the teams was strong and some excellent skills were on show for all the coaches to see. The way the players interacted with each other was a credit to both programmes and I’d love to continue to build the relationship between us. I hope they have enjoyed their trip to the North East and from everyone at Park View we wish you the best of luck for the season ahead.
Ash Thorpe - Park View Academy of Sport Head of Cricket
Huge thanks to Park View for inviting us to train with them at the superb facilities at The Riverside. Our lads will take a huge amount away from the session, being tested across all facets of the game. There was a lot of skill shown and it tested the players' thought processes which is vital leading into a big season. I was really impressed by both sets of players on how they interacted with each other. Best of luck to all the Park View players for the season and we’d love to see you down i nNorthampton in the future.
